The Bionanoelectronics is considered as the biological or biomedical applications of the Nanoelectronics (science and technology of electronic devices and systems at nanometric scale, less than 100nm). Then, in order to achieve the above applications, the Bionanoelectronics is an interdisciplinary research and development field that includes principles and fundaments of chemistry, biology, physics, medicine, electronics, materials science and nanotechnology.
In this context, the Bionanoelectronics will affect the biomedical industry through the development of advanced bioMEMS-bioNEMS, biomedical nanodevices, biosensors, biochips, bio-artificial organs and bionanorobots. Therefore, the Bionanoelectronics is a technology addressed to improve the quality of human life, that is, the Bionanoelectronics will be used in areas as diverse as gene therapy, personalized and targeted drug delivery, treatments for degenerative diseases, regenerative medicine, novel analytical and diagnostic techniques and novel drug discovery techniques, which will generate the next life sciences technology, the Bionanomedicine.
Also, the Bionanoelectronics will affect other industries, in special the electronics and computing industries through the development of biomaterial-based electronic circuitry, which will generate the next generation of computers, that is, the Bionanocomputers or Nanobiocomputers. |
